Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, oil filter wrench, oil catch pan, rags, and safety goggles.
  • Gather replacement parts as needed based on the source of the leak (oil filter, gaskets, etc.).
2. Drain Engine Oil
  • Place the oil catch pan underneath the oil pan.
  • Remove the oil drain plug using a socket wrench and allow the oil to fully drain.
  • Replace the oil drain plug and tighten to manufacturer specifications (typically 25 ft-lbs).
3. Replace Oil Filter (if applicable)
  • Use an oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter.
  • Apply a small amount of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new filter.
  • Install the new oil filter, hand-tighten it, and then tighten it an additional 3/4 turn.
4. Replace Gaskets (if applicable)
  • If the valve cover gasket or oil pan gasket is leaking, remove the necessary components to access the gaskets.
  • Clean the mating surfaces using a gasket scraper and solvent.
  • Install the new gasket and reassemble the components, torquing bolts to specifications (refer to service manual for specific torque values).
5. Refill Engine Oil
  • Remove the oil filler cap.
  • Pour in the recommended engine oil type (typically 0W-20 or 5W-20) through the oil filler neck.
  • Check the oil level with the dipstick and add oil as necessary.
6. Final Inspection
  • Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes while checking for any leaks.
  • Inspect around the areas where gaskets were replaced and oil filter was installed.
