Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Lug wrench
    • Socket set
    • C-clamp or brake caliper tool
    • Brake cleaner
    • Torque wrench
  • Instructions:
    • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
    • Gather all necessary tools and parts for the replacement.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels slightly while the vehicle is still on the ground.
  • Use the jack to lift the front of the vehicle, then secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels.
3. Remove the Brake Caliper
  • Locate the caliper mounting bolts on the backside of the brake caliper.
  • Use the socket set to remove the caliper bolts.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor without stretching the brake line.
  • Use a C-clamp to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing.
4. Replace Brake Pads
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Clean the caliper bracket and rotor with brake cleaner.
  • Install the new brake pads into the caliper bracket ensuring they are oriented correctly.
  • Apply a thin layer of brake grease to the back of the new pads to prevent noise.
5. Reassemble the Brake System
  • Reinstall the caliper over the new brake pads.
  • Secure the caliper by tightening the caliper mounting bolts to the manufacturer’s specified torque (usually around 30-40 ft-lbs).
  • Reinstall the front wheels and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
6. Lower the Vehicle
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle to the ground.
  • Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specified torque (typically around 80-100 ft-lbs).
7. Final Check
  • Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure the caliper piston properly seats the new pads.
  • Check the brake fluid level and add fluid if necessary.
