Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: OBD-II scanner, socket set, torque wrench, power steering fluid, fluid catch pan, and rags.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the battery before working on electrical systems.
2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level; if low, add the recommended power steering fluid until it reaches the proper level.
  • Inspect the fluid condition; if dirty or contaminated, proceed to the next step.
3. Replace Power Steering Fluid (if necessary)
  • With the engine off, place a fluid catch pan under the power steering pump.
  • Disconnect the return line from the power steering pump using a socket set.
  • Allow the old fluid to drain into the pan.
  • Reconnect the return line securely.
  • Fill the reservoir with new power steering fluid, then start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to circulate the new fluid.
4. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if needed)
  • If fluid issues persist, remove the serpentine belt using a socket set.
  • Unbolt the power steering pump from its mounting bracket.
  • Disconnect the power steering lines from the pump, taking care to collect any remaining fluid.
  • Install the new power steering pump, securing it with bolts at the specified torque.
  • Reconnect the power steering lines and the serpentine belt.
5. Test the Steering System
  • Reconnect the battery and start the vehicle.
  • Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to ensure the system is functioning correctly.
  • Check for leaks around the power steering pump and lines.
