Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical issues.

Tools Required:

  • Socket set
  • Torque wrench
  • Fluid catch pan
  • O-ring pick
  • Funnel
2. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Fluid
  1. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir cap.
  2. Using a fluid catch pan, drain the old power steering fluid into the pan.
  3. Inspect the old fluid for contamination or debris.
  4. Clean the reservoir and replace with new power steering fluid as specified in the owner's manual.
3. Check and Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. Remove the serpentine belt by releasing tension from the tensioner pulley.
  3. Disconnect the power steering fluid lines from the pump using a wrench.
    • Note: Use an O-ring pick to remove any old O-rings on the lines.
  4. Unbolt the power steering pump from its mounting bracket using a socket set.
  5. Install the new power steering pump by reversing the removal steps.
    • Ensure to replace O-rings on the fluid lines for a proper seal.
    • Torque specifications for the pump mounting bolts: 37 ft-lbs (50 Nm).
4. Reinstall Components
  1. Reattach the serpentine belt, ensuring it is properly aligned on all pulleys.
  2. Reconnect the power steering fluid lines, ensuring they are secured and leak-proof.
  3. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  4. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to purge air from the system.
