Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, mechanic's stethoscope, torque wrench, safety goggles, gloves.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is still on the ground.
  • Safely jack up the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Inspect Wheel Bearing
  • Visual Inspection: Check the outer and inner races of the bearing for any signs of pitting or scoring.
  • Check for Play: Wiggle the hub assembly to feel for excessive movement.
  • If excessive play or damage is detected, proceed to replace the bearing.
4. Remove Old Bearing
  • Remove brake caliper and bracket (if necessary) to access the wheel hub.
  • Disconnect any ABS sensors if applicable.
  • Remove the wheel hub assembly by unbolting any retaining bolts, then pull the hub off the spindle.
  • Use a bearing puller if needed to remove the bearing from the hub.
5. Install New Bearing
  • Lubrication: Apply grease to the new bearing as per manufacturer specifications.
  • Press the new bearing into the hub assembly carefully, ensuring it is seated correctly.
  • Reinstall the wheel hub assembly onto the spindle and secure it with the retaining bolts, using the correct torque specifications.
6. Reassemble Components
  • Reattach the brake caliper and any removed ABS sensors.
  • Reinstall the wheel, hand-tightening the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
