Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is off.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves.
2. Inspect and Refill Brake Fluid
  • Tools Required: Brake fluid, funnel
  • Check the master cylinder reservoir for the brake fluid level. If low, refill with the recommended brake fluid (DOT 3 or DOT 4 as specified in the owner's manual).
  • Replace the cap securely on the reservoir.
3. Check for Leaks
  • Tools Required: Flashlight
  • Visually inspect all brake lines, connections, and components for signs of leaks.
  • If any leaks are found, replace the damaged brake line or component.
4. Bleed the Brake System
  • Tools Required: Brake bleeder kit, clear tubing, container for collecting fluid
  • Start by having an assistant pump the brake pedal several times and hold it down.
  • Open the bleeder valve on the furthest brake caliper from the master cylinder (usually the right rear), allowing fluid and air to escape.
  • Close the valve and instruct the assistant to release the brake pedal. Repeat until the fluid runs clear and free of bubbles.
  • Move to the next brake caliper and repeat the process in the order of right rear, left rear, right front, and finally left front.
5. Replace Master Cylinder (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, socket set, brake line wrench, torque wrench
  • Disconnect the brake lines from the master cylinder and remove it from the mounting bracket.
  • Install the new master cylinder, ensuring it is oriented correctly.
  • Torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications and reconnect the brake lines.
  • Bleed the system again after installation.
