Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Strut spring compressor
    • Screwdrivers
    • Pliers
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it on jack stands. Ensure the vehicle is level.
  • Remove the wheel for better access to the strut assembly.
2. Remove Strut Assembly
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Disconnect the sway bar link from the strut using a socket and ratchet.
    2. Remove the bolts securing the strut to the steering knuckle; use a breaker bar if necessary.
    3. Remove the upper strut mounting nuts from the top of the strut tower in the engine bay.
    4. Carefully lower the strut assembly out of the wheel well.
3. Replace Strut
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Use a strut spring compressor to compress the coil spring on the old strut.
    2. Remove the strut retaining nut to free the spring from the strut assembly.
    3. Install the compressed spring onto the new strut and secure it using the strut retaining nut. Ensure it is torqued to the manufacturer’s specifications.
    4. Remove the spring compressor once the strut is assembled.
4. Install New Strut Assembly
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Position the new strut assembly into the wheel well, aligning it with the upper mount holes.
    2. Reinstall the upper strut mounting nuts and torque them to specifications.
    3. Attach the strut to the steering knuckle and secure it with bolts, ensuring they are torqued properly.
    4. Reconnect the sway bar link to the strut.
5. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Replace the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
    2. Carefully lower the vehicle from the jack stands using the jack.
    3. Tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque.
