Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shock.
2. Replace Thermostat
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, gasket scraper, new thermostat, and gasket.
  • Remove the thermostat housing by unscrewing the bolts with a socket wrench.
  • Carefully lift the thermostat out of the housing, noting its orientation.
  • Clean the mating surfaces on the housing and engine block with a gasket scraper.
  • Install the new thermostat in the same orientation as the old one.
  • Apply a new gasket to the thermostat housing and reattach it, tightening the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
3. Inspect/Replace Water Pump
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdrivers, new water pump, gasket, and sealant.
  • Drain the coolant from the radiator by opening the drain plug.
  • Remove the serpentine belt from the water pump pulley.
  • Unscrew and detach the water pump from the engine block.
  • Clean the old gasket material from the mounting surface.
  • Install the new water pump with a new gasket and secure it using the appropriate torque specifications.
  • Reinstall the serpentine belt.
4. Flush and Refill Cooling System
  • Tools Required: Coolant funnel, coolant, and hoses.
  • Flush the cooling system using a flush kit or by running clean water through the system until it runs clear.
  • Refill the system with the recommended coolant type and mixture.
  • Bleed the cooling system to remove any air pockets.
