Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials: coolant, a drain pan, funnels, and a hose.
  • Ensure the engine is cool to prevent burns.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Drain the Old Coolant
  1. Locate the radiator drain plug at the bottom of the radiator.
  2. Place a drain pan underneath the radiator.
  3. Open the drain plug and allow the old coolant to completely drain out.
  4. Close the drain plug securely after draining.
3. Flush the System
  1. Remove the radiator cap and fill the system with a mixture of water and a cooling system flush product, following the product's instructions.
  2. Replace the radiator cap and start the engine, allowing it to reach operating temperature.
  3. Run the engine for about 10-15 minutes with the heater on high to circulate the flush solution.
  4. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool completely.
4. Drain the Flush Solution
  1. Repeat step 2 to drain the flushing solution from the radiator.
  2. Rinse the system by filling the radiator with fresh water and draining it again to remove any remaining flush solution.
5. Refill with New Coolant
  1. Close the radiator drain plug.
  2. Using a funnel, fill the radiator with the appropriate type of new coolant according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  3. Fill the coolant reservoir to the recommended level.
6. Bleed the Cooling System
  1. Start the engine and let it run with the radiator cap off until the thermostat opens (you may see coolant flow in the radiator).
  2. Add coolant as necessary to maintain the level; replace the cap once full.
  3. Let the engine run for a short period to check for leaks and ensure proper operation.
