Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Funnel
    • Transmission fluid pump (if necessary)
    • Fluid catch pan
  • Parts Required:
    • New transmission fluid (check owner's manual for specifications)
    • Transmission filter (if applicable)
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off. Allow the engine to cool before beginning.
2. Drain Old Transmission Fluid
  • Place the fluid catch pan under the transmission pan.
  • Remove the drain plug with a socket wrench and allow the fluid to completely drain into the catch pan.
  • If the vehicle has a transmission filter, remove the pan bolts and lower the pan to access the filter. Replace the filter if necessary.
3. Clean and Inspect
  • Clean the transmission pan and magnet (if equipped) to remove any debris or metal shavings.
  • Inspect the gasket for wear; replace it if necessary.
4. Install New Filter and Reassemble
  • If applicable, install the new transmission filter.
  • Reattach the transmission pan using a new gasket or sealant as required. Torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 10-12 ft-lbs, but verify with the owner's manual).
5. Add New Transmission Fluid
  • Locate the fill tube and remove the cap.
  • Using a funnel, pour the new transmission fluid into the fill tube. Use the type of fluid specified in the owner's manual.
  • Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
6. Check Fluid Level
  • With the engine running and the transmission in park, check the fluid level using the dipstick. Add more fluid if necessary until it reaches the correct level.
