Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, oil filter wrench, rags, UV light (if dye is used).
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the engine is cool and the vehicle is on a flat surface before starting work.
2. Identify Oil Leak Source
  • If the leak is from the oil filter:

    1. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool.
    2. Use an oil filter wrench to remove the oil filter.
    3. Inspect the rubber O-ring on the oil filter for damage; replace the filter if necessary.
    4. Lubricate the O-ring with a bit of fresh oil before installing a new filter.
  • If the leak is from the front crankshaft seal:

    1. Remove any accessories obstructing access to the timing cover.
    2. Remove the harmonic balancer using a puller tool.
    3. Carefully pry out the old crankshaft seal using a seal puller.
    4. Install the new crankshaft seal by tapping it in evenly until flush with the housing.
  • If the leak is from the timing cover:

    1. Remove necessary components (such as the water pump) to access the timing cover.
    2. Unbolt the timing cover and carefully remove it.
    3. Clean the mating surfaces of the engine and timing cover.
    4. Apply a bead of RTV silicone or replace the gasket as necessary.
    5. Reinstall the timing cover and torque bolts to manufacturer specifications.
3. Refill Engine Oil
  1. If any oil was lost during the repair, refill the engine oil using the recommended oil type.
  2. Start the engine and allow it to run for a few minutes while checking for any new leaks.
