Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Wheel chocks, jack and jack stands, lug wrench, safety goggles, gloves.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
  • Allow the vehicle to cool if it has recently been driven.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the affected wheel using a lug wrench.
  • Raise the vehicle with a jack and secure it on jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Inspect Brake Components
  • Examine the brake pads for signs of excessive wear or glazing (shiny surface).
  • Check the brake rotors for warping, scoring, or discoloration indicating overheating.
  • Inspect the brake caliper for leaks or damage.
4. Replace Brake Pads and/or Rotors (if necessary)
  • If the brake pads are worn below the recommended thickness (usually 3mm), replace them.
    • Sub-steps:
      • Remove the caliper bolts and slide the caliper off the rotor.
      • Remove the old brake pads and install new ones, ensuring they are properly aligned.
      • Reinstall the caliper and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • If the rotors are damaged, replace them.
    • Sub-steps:
      • Remove the caliper and hang it using a wire to avoid stress on the brake line.
      • Remove the rotor retaining screws (if applicable) and slide the rotor off the hub.
      • Install a new rotor and secure it with the retaining screws.
5. Reassemble and Reinstall Wheel
  • Reinstall the wheel onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and then torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
