Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, multimeter, battery terminal cleaner, load tester
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to ensure safety during inspection and repair.
2. Clean Battery Terminals
  • Remove any corrosion from the battery terminals using a battery terminal cleaner.
  • Use a wire brush for stubborn corrosion, then wipe with a clean cloth.
  • Reconnect the terminals securely, starting with the positive terminal followed by the negative terminal.
3. Jump Start the Vehicle (if needed)
  • Tools Required: Jumper cables
  • Connect the jumper cables from a working vehicle's battery to the dead battery (red to positive, black to negative).
  • Start the working vehicle and let it run for a few minutes, then attempt to start the BMW X5.
  • If the vehicle starts, allow it to run for a minimum of 30 minutes to recharge the battery.
4. Battery Replacement (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench
  • Disconnect the battery terminals (negative first, then positive).
  • Remove the battery hold-down bracket using the appropriate socket.
  • Carefully lift the battery out of the tray and replace it with a new battery of the same specifications (ensure correct orientation).
  • Reinstall the hold-down bracket and reconnect the battery terminals (positive first, then negative).
  • Torque the battery terminals to the manufacturer’s specifications.
