Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, and a spring compressor (if necessary).
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the ignition is off.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues during the repair.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use the jack to lift the vehicle and securely place jack stands under the chassis.
  • Remove the wheels using the lug wrench.
3. Remove Old Shock Absorbers
  • Front Shocks:

    1. Locate the upper mounting bolts of the shock absorber under the hood or inside the wheel well.
    2. Remove the upper bolts using a socket and ratchet.
    3. Unscrew the lower mounting bolts from the shock mount at the bottom of the control arm.
    4. Carefully pull the shock absorber out of its mount.
  • Rear Shocks:

    1. Access the upper shock mounting points, which may be located inside the trunk or under the rear seat.
    2. Remove the upper bolts with the appropriate socket.
    3. Unscrew the lower bolts securing the shock to the rear axle or suspension arm.
    4. Remove the shock from the vehicle.
4. Install New Shock Absorbers
  • Front Shocks:

    1. Position the new shock absorber into the mount and align it correctly.
    2. Install the lower mounting bolts and tighten them to the manufacturer's specifications (check the service manual for torque values).
    3. Secure the upper mounting bolts and tighten them.
  • Rear Shocks:

    1. Insert the new shock absorber into the lower mount and align it.
    2. Fasten the lower mounting bolts and tighten to specifications.
    3. Position the shock in the upper mount and secure with the upper bolts.
5. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  • Reattach the wheels and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands using the jack.
  • Once on the ground, torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Reconnect the battery.
