Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Remove Wheels
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts with a socket wrench and take off the front wheels.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Rotors
  • Inspection:
    • Measure rotor thickness with a micrometer. If below minimum specification, replace.
    • Check for signs of warping or scoring.
  • Replacement:
    • Remove caliper bolts with a socket wrench and carefully hang the caliper using a bungee cord (do not let it dangle).
    • Remove the rotor by unscrewing any retaining screws and pull it off the hub.
    • Install new rotor by aligning with hub and securing with retaining screws.
4. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Clean the caliper bracket and apply brake grease to the pad contact points.
  • Install new brake pads, ensuring they are properly seated.
5. Reassemble and Torque Components
  • Reattach the brake caliper bolts and torque them to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 30-40 Nm for BMW).
  • Reinstall the wheels and torque lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 120 Nm).
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle.
6. Test Drive
  • Perform a test drive to ensure braking performance is restored and observe if the steering wheel still shakes.
