Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, wheel chocks, socket set, torque wrench, stethoscope.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and securely lifted with jack stands.
  • Disconnect the battery before beginning any electrical work.
2. Inspect and Replace Fluid
  1. Locate the power steering reservoir.
  2. Check the fluid level and condition; if it's low or contaminated, drain and replace it with the manufacturer-recommended fluid.
  3. Refill to the proper level and bleed the system according to the manufacturer's specifications.
3. Inspect and Replace Tie Rod Ends
  1. Remove the front wheels using a socket set.
  2. Inspect the tie rod ends for play or wear; if damaged, proceed with replacement.
  3. To replace, remove the cotter pin and nut from the tie rod end, then disconnect it from the steering knuckle.
  4. Install the new tie rod end, torque the nut to specifications, and replace the cotter pin.
  5. Reinstall the wheel and torque the lug nuts.
4. Inspect and Replace CV Joints
  1. Lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  2. Remove the front wheels.
  3. Inspect the CV boots for tears or leaks; if damaged, replace the CV joint.
  4. To replace, remove the axle nut and disconnect the CV joint from the transmission.
  5. Install the new CV joint and axle, torque the axle nut to specifications.
  6. Reinstall the wheels and lower the vehicle.
5. Check Steering Rack
  1. Inspect the steering rack for any visible leaks or damage.
  2. If noise persists after addressing other components, consider replacing the steering rack.
  3. Disconnect the steering column from the rack, remove the mounting bolts, and replace the steering rack.
  4. Reconnect all components and refill the power steering system.
