💡 Expert Tip

For complex repairs like this, consider taking photos at each step. This helps if you need to reverse a step or consult with a mechanic. Also, keep all removed parts organized - you may need to reference them during reassembly.

Verification

After completing the repair, verify that the issue has been resolved:

  • ✓Test the affected component to ensure it functions correctly
  • ✓Check for any error codes or warning lights
  • ✓Monitor the vehicle for a few days to ensure the issue does not recur

Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor (if replacing struts).
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Disconnect the battery if working on electrical components.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle off the ground and support it securely with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheels to gain access to the struts.
3. Remove Old Struts
  • Front Struts:

    1. Disconnect the brake line and any ABS sensors attached to the strut.
    2. Remove the nuts holding the top of the strut to the strut tower (usually under the hood).
    3. Remove the lower strut bolts connecting the strut to the wheel hub.
    4. Carefully remove the strut from the vehicle.
  • Rear Struts:

    1. Disconnect any associated brake lines or sensors.
    2. Remove the top strut nuts from the inside of the trunk.
    3. Remove the lower bolts connecting the strut to the wheel hub.
    4. Remove the strut assembly from the vehicle.
4. Install New Struts
  • Use a strut spring compressor to compress the springs if reusing the old springs.
  • Install the new or rebuilt struts in reverse order of removal.
    • Make sure to torque the strut bolts to the manufacturer's specifications (typically found in a repair manual).
    • Replace any worn or damaged mounts while installing the new struts.
5. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  • Reattach the wheels and lower the vehicle to the ground.
  • Reconnect the battery if disconnected.
  • Ensure all components are securely fastened.
