Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and materials. Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Tools Required:
    • Brake fluid (DOT 4 or as specified by manufacturer)
    • Brake bleeder kit or vacuum pump
    • Wrench set
    • Rags for cleanup
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Wear gloves and safety goggles, as brake fluid is corrosive.
    • Ensure the engine is cool before working on the brake system.
2. Remove Old Brake Fluid
  1. Locate the brake fluid reservoir under the hood.
  2. Use a turkey baster or siphon to remove the old brake fluid from the reservoir.
  3. Dispose of the old fluid properly, as it is toxic.
3. Bleed Brake Lines
  1. Start with the brake furthest from the master cylinder (usually the right rear).
  2. Attach the brake bleeder kit or vacuum pump to the brake bleeder valve on the brake caliper.
  3. Open the bleeder valve slightly while having an assistant press the brake pedal.
  4. Allow old fluid and air to escape until new fluid begins to flow from the bleeder valve.
  5. Close the bleeder valve before the assistant releases the brake pedal.
  6. Repeat this process for the left rear, right front, and then left front brakes, ensuring to maintain fluid level in the reservoir throughout.
4. Refill Reservoir
  1. Once all brakes have been bled, refill the brake fluid reservoir with new fluid to the proper level marked on the reservoir.
  2. Replace the reservoir cap securely.
5. Final Check
  1. Start the engine and pump the brake pedal several times to ensure a firm feel.
  2. Check for any leaks around the brake lines and calipers.
