Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical issues.
2. Identify Leak Location
  • Clean the affected area with a degreaser to remove old fluid and debris.
  • Use a UV dye in the fluid, run the engine, and inspect for leaks with a UV light to pinpoint the exact location of the leak.
3. Replace Damaged Components
  • Hoses:

    1. Remove the clamps securing the power steering hoses using a socket set.
    2. Disconnect the hoses from the reservoir and pump.
    3. Install new hoses, securing them with new clamps.
  • Power Steering Pump:

    1. Disconnect the electrical connector and fluid lines from the pump.
    2. Unbolt the pump from its mounting bracket.
    3. Install the new pump and reconnect the fluid lines and electrical connector.
  • Steering Rack:

    1. Drain the power steering fluid from the system.
    2. Disconnect the steering rack from the tie rods and any mounting brackets.
    3. Replace seals or the steering rack if damaged.
    4. Reinstall the steering rack and reconnect tie rods.
4. Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Use the manufacturer-recommended power steering fluid to refill the reservoir.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to purge air from the system.
5. Check for Leaks
  • Inspect all replaced components for leaks after the fluid has been cycled through the system.
