Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety while working on electrical components.
2. Remove the Fuel Sender Unit
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdriver, fuel line disconnect tool.
  • Locate the access panel for the fuel sender unit under the rear seat or trunk area.
  • Remove the access cover using the appropriate screwdriver.
  • Disconnect the fuel lines using the fuel line disconnect tool.
  • Unscrew the retaining ring holding the sender unit in place and carefully lift it out of the fuel tank.
3. Inspect and Replace the Fuel Level Sensor
  • Check the fuel level sensor for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion.
  • If faulty, replace the fuel level sensor with a new one.
  • Ensure the new sensor is compatible with the BMW X5 F15.
4. Reinstall the Fuel Sender Unit
  • Carefully place the new or inspected fuel sender unit back into the fuel tank.
  • Secure it with the retaining ring and reconnect the fuel lines.
  • Replace the access cover and secure it.
5. Reconnect Battery and Test
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Turn the ignition to the "ON" position (do not start the engine) and check if the fuel gauge responds.
  • If functional, start the engine and verify that the fuel gauge operates correctly with varying fuel levels.
