Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical issues while working on the vehicle.
2. Check and Add Engine Oil
  • Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean.
  • Insert the dipstick back into the tube and remove it again to check the oil level.
  • If the oil level is low, add the recommended oil type (BMW Longlife 01 or 14) in small increments, checking the level until it reaches the correct mark.
3. Inspect and Replace Oil Filter
  • Locate the oil filter and remove it using an oil filter wrench.
  • Inspect the old oil filter for debris and blockages.
  • Apply a small amount of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new oil filter.
  • Install the new oil filter, tightening it by hand until snug, then give it an additional three-quarters turn.
4. Replace Engine Oil (if necessary)
  • Place a drain pan under the oil pan.
  • Remove the drain plug using a socket wrench and allow the old oil to fully drain.
  • Replace the drain plug and tighten it to the manufacturer's torque specification (typically around 25 Nm).
  • Refill the engine with the correct amount of new oil through the oil filler cap.
5. Test Oil Pressure
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Start the engine and monitor the oil pressure gauge.
  • If pressure is still low, proceed to replace the oil pressure sensor and retest.
6. Replace Oil Pump (if needed)
  • If the oil pressure remains low after replacing the sensor, the oil pump may need replacement.
  • Access the oil pump by removing the oil pan, disconnecting the oil pickup tube, and unbolting the pump.
  • Install the new oil pump, following the manufacturer's torque specifications for bolts.
