Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Floor jack, jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, rubber mallet, pry bar.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the ignition is off.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a floor jack to raise the front of the vehicle.
  • Secure the vehicle on jack stands to ensure safety.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Use a socket set to remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheel.
4. Inspect and Replace Ball Joints
  • Check for Play: Place a pry bar under the suspension arm and lift to check for excessive movement at the ball joint.
  • Remove the Ball Joint:
    1. Remove the cotter pin (if applicable) using pliers.
    2. Use a socket set to remove the ball joint nut.
    3. Tap the ball joint with a rubber mallet to free it from the control arm.
  • Install New Ball Joint:
    1. Position the new ball joint into the control arm and secure it using the nut.
    2. Torque the nut to manufacturer specifications (refer to the service manual for specific torque values).
    3. Reinsert the cotter pin if applicable.
5. Reassemble
  • Reattach the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle to the ground and then torque the lug nuts to the specified value.
