Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on electrical components.
2. Check Oil Level
  • Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, and reinsert it.
  • Pull it out again to check the oil level. If low, add the recommended oil type (BMW Longlife-01 or equivalent) until the correct level is reached.
3. Replace Oil Filter
  • Tools Required: Oil filter wrench, socket set
  • Remove the oil filter using the oil filter wrench.
  • Apply a small amount of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new filter.
  • Install the new oil filter by hand until snug, then tighten slightly more with the wrench (do not overtighten).
4. Inspect and Replace Oil Pump (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, gasket scraper
  • Drain the engine oil completely using a drain pan.
  • Remove the oil pan by unbolting it and scraping off old gasket material.
  • Remove the oil pump, typically located at the bottom of the engine, and inspect for wear or damage.
  • Replace the oil pump with a new unit if necessary, following specific torque values as per the manufacturer’s specifications.
5. Refill Engine Oil
  • Tools Required: Funnel
  • Refill the engine with the appropriate type and amount of oil.
  • Start the engine and allow it to run for a few minutes, checking for leaks.
