Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely supported with jack stands.
  • Disconnect the battery for safety.
2. Check and Replace Brake Fluid
  • Tools Required: Brake fluid, funnel, rags
    • a. Open the master cylinder reservoir cap and check the fluid level.
    • b. If low, add the appropriate brake fluid (DOT 4).
    • c. If the fluid is contaminated or old, drain the existing fluid from the system and replace it with new fluid.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Booster
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, socket set, vacuum gauge
    • a. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum line from the engine intake.
    • b. Remove the brake master cylinder from the booster by unbolting it.
    • c. Unbolt the brake booster from the firewall and remove it.
    • d. Install the new brake booster by reversing the removal steps, ensuring all bolts are torqued to manufacturer specifications.
    • e. Reconnect the brake master cylinder and vacuum line.
4. Bleed the Brake System
  • Tools Required: Brake bleeder kit, clear tubing
    • a. Attach the clear tubing to the bleeder valve on the furthest brake caliper from the master cylinder.
    • b. Open the bleeder valve and have an assistant pump the brake pedal several times until fluid flows without bubbles.
    • c. Close the bleeder valve and repeat on the remaining calipers in order.
    • d. Check and refill the brake fluid reservoir as needed during the process.
