Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, oil catch pan, rags, O-ring pick, gasket scraper.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and ensure the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical issues.
2. Identify the Leak Source
  • Clean the area around the suspected leak with degreaser.
  • Start the engine and allow it to idle while observing for oil leaks.
  • Once identified, turn off the engine and mark the leak's location.
3. Replace Valve Cover Gasket (if applicable)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, flat screwdriver.
  • Remove the engine cover (if equipped) to access the valve cover.
  • Unbolt the valve cover using the socket set, ensuring to remember bolt placement.
  • Carefully lift off the valve cover and remove the old gasket.
  • Clean the mating surface with a gasket scraper and ensure it is free of debris.
  • Place the new gasket onto the valve cover, aligning it properly.
  • Reinstall the valve cover and torque bolts to 10 Nm (7.4 lb-ft) in a crisscross pattern.
4. Replace Oil Filter (if applicable)
  • Tools Required: Oil filter wrench, oil catch pan.
  • Place the oil catch pan under the oil filter.
  • Use the oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter.
  • Apply a small amount of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new filter.
  • Install the new oil filter, tightening it by hand until snug.
5. Replace Oil Pan Gasket (if applicable)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, gasket scraper, torque wrench.
  • Drain the engine oil by removing the oil drain plug and allowing oil to fully drain into the catch pan.
  • Remove the oil pan bolts using the socket set.
  • Carefully lower the oil pan and remove the old gasket.
  • Clean the oil pan and engine block surfaces thoroughly.
  • Install the new gasket and reposition the oil pan.
  • Torque the oil pan bolts to the manufacturer’s specification (typically around 10 Nm or as specified).
6. Refill Engine Oil
  • Tools Required: Funnel.
  • Replace the oil drain plug and tighten it securely.
  • Using a funnel, refill the engine with the appropriate type and amount of oil (consult the owner’s manual for specifications).
