Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical shorts.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle, depending on which struts are being replaced.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands for safety.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Using a socket set, remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel to access the strut assembly.
4. Remove the Strut Assembly
  • Front Struts:

    1. Disconnect the brake line and any sensors attached to the strut.
    2. Remove the bolts securing the strut to the steering knuckle.
    3. Unbolt the strut from the upper mount in the engine compartment (access may require removing other components).
  • Rear Struts:

    1. Access the strut tops through the trunk or rear cargo area.
    2. Remove the upper mounting nuts.
    3. Disconnect the lower bolts from the control arm or axle assembly.
5. Install New Struts
  • Position the new strut in place.
  • Secure it to the upper mount first, then attach the lower bolts to the control arm or steering knuckle.
  • Reconnect any brake lines and sensors.
6. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and then torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
7. Final Inspection
  • Check the alignment of the wheels and adjust if necessary.
  • Inspect for any leaks or unusual noises after installation.
