Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, fluid catch pan, funnel, OBD-II scanner, power steering fluid.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface, and the engine is off and cool.
  • Disconnect the battery for safety.
2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level. If low, add manufacturer-recommended power steering fluid until it reaches the proper level.
  • Replace the cap securely.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, torque wrench, fluid catch pan.
  • Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump. Use a wrench to relieve tension on the tensioner.
  • Disconnect the power steering hoses connected to the pump, allowing any remaining fluid to drain into the catch pan.
  • Unbolt the power steering pump from its mounting bracket using the socket set.
  • Replace the old pump with a new or refurbished unit, ensuring it is secured with the correct torque specifications provided by the manufacturer.
  • Reconnect the power steering hoses, ensuring they are tight and leak-free.
4. Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with fluid.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to push out any air bubbles.
  • Check the fluid level and add more fluid if necessary, repeating the lock-to-lock movement until no air bubbles are present.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the drive belt, ensuring proper tension.
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Start the engine and check for noise or leaks while turning the steering wheel.
