Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials needed for the repair.
  • Safety gear: gloves and goggles.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
  • Disconnect the battery for safety.
2. Identify the Leak Source
  • Use a flashlight to inspect all components of the power steering system (reservoir, hoses, pump, steering rack).
  • Clean any visible fluid from the components with a shop towel to identify the leak more easily.
3. Replace Damaged Components
  • Hoses:

    • Remove the clamps securing the hoses to the power steering pump and steering rack.
    • Replace any damaged hoses with new, OEM-spec hoses.
    • Reattach the clamps and ensure they are tight.
  • Reservoir:

    • If the reservoir is cracked, disconnect the hoses and remove it from its bracket.
    • Install a new power steering fluid reservoir. Reconnect the hoses securely.
  • Pump:

    • If the pump is leaking, disconnect the hoses and electrical connectors.
    • Remove the pump from its mounting bracket (note the mounting bolt torque specifications).
    • Install a new pump, reconnect hoses and electrical connections as per specifications.
4. Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Use the appropriate type of power steering fluid as specified in the owner's manual.
  • Fill the reservoir to the recommended level.
5. Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times.
  • Check for any remaining leaks.
  • Top off the fluid if necessary.
