Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack
    • Lug wrench
    • Spare tire
    • Wheel chocks
    • Tire pressure gauge
  • Park the vehicle on a flat, stable surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
2. Loosen Lug Nuts
  • Use the lug wrench to slightly loosen the lug nuts on the flat tire while the tire is still on the ground. Turn counterclockwise to loosen, but do not remove them completely yet.
3. Lift the Vehicle
  • Position the jack under the vehicle’s designated jacking point (refer to the owner’s manual for the exact location).
  • Raise the vehicle until the flat tire is off the ground.
4. Remove the Flat Tire
  • Fully remove the loosened lug nuts and place them in a safe location.
  • Carefully remove the flat tire by pulling it straight off the hub.
5. Install the Spare Tire
  • Align the spare tire with the wheel hub, ensuring the holes are aligned with the wheel studs.
  • Push the spare tire onto the hub until it is flush.
6. Secure the Spare Tire
  • Hand-tighten the lug nuts onto the wheel studs, ensuring they are on correctly.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground using the jack.
  • Once the vehicle is on the ground, use the lug wrench to tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to ensure even pressure. Refer to the manufacturer’s specifications for proper torque values (typically around 80-90 ft-lbs for most BMWs).
