Solution

💡 Expert Tip

For complex repairs like this, consider taking photos at each step. This helps if you need to reverse a step or consult with a mechanic. Also, keep all removed parts organized - you may need to reference them during reassembly.

Verification

After completing the repair, verify that the issue has been resolved:

  • ✓Test the affected component to ensure it functions correctly
  • ✓Check for any error codes or warning lights
  • ✓Monitor the vehicle for a few days to ensure the issue does not recur

Prevention Tips

To prevent this issue from occurring again:

  • •Follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule
  • •Address warning signs early before they develop into major issues
  • •Use quality parts and fluids recommended for your vehicle
  • •Keep detailed records of all repairs and maintenance

Tools & Equipment Required

  • •Jack and jack stands
  • •Lug wrench
  • •Torque wrench
  • •Brake caliper tool (or C-clamp)
  • •Socket set
  • •Brake cleaner
  • •Anti-squeal lubricant
  • •Safely park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • •Disconnect the battery to avoid any electrical issues during the repair.

Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Lug wrench
    • Torque wrench
    • Brake caliper tool (or C-clamp)
    • Socket set
    • Brake cleaner
    • Anti-squeal lubricant
  • Safely park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid any electrical issues during the repair.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use the jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle, depending on which brake pads you are replacing.
  • Secure the vehicle on jack stands for safety.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Using the lug wrench, loosen and remove the lug nuts.
  • Take off the wheel and set it aside.
4. Remove the Brake Caliper
  • Locate the caliper mounting bolts and remove them using the appropriate socket.
  • Slide the caliper off the brake rotor.
  • Support the caliper using a bungee cord or suitable hanger to avoid putting stress on the brake line.
5. Replace the Brake Pads
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Use brake cleaner to clean the caliper bracket and rotor.
  • Install the new brake pads into the caliper bracket, ensuring they are properly seated.
  • Apply anti-squeal lubricant to the back of the pads (not on the friction surface).
6. Compress the Caliper Piston
  • Use a brake caliper tool or a C-clamp to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing. This will create enough space to fit over the new pads.
  • Ensure the brake fluid reservoir cap is loosened to prevent pressure buildup.
7. Reinstall the Brake Caliper
  • Carefully slide the caliper over the new brake pads.
  • Reinstall and torque the caliper mounting bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 30-40 Nm, but check the service manual).
8. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back on the hub.
  • Hand-tighten the lug nuts, then lower the vehicle and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 120 Nm).
9. Reconnect the Battery
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
10. Test the Brakes
  • Before driving, pump the brake pedal several times to ensure the pads seat properly and to restore brake pressure.
