💡 Expert Tip

For complex repairs like this, consider taking photos at each step. This helps if you need to reverse a step or consult with a mechanic. Also, keep all removed parts organized - you may need to reference them during reassembly.

Verification

After completing the repair, verify that the issue has been resolved:

  • ✓Test the affected component to ensure it functions correctly
  • ✓Check for any error codes or warning lights
  • ✓Monitor the vehicle for a few days to ensure the issue does not recur

Prevention Tips

To prevent this issue from occurring again:

  • •Follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule
  • •Address warning signs early before they develop into major issues

Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor, and a pry bar.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical issues during repairs.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheels to access the struts.
3. Remove the Strut Assembly
  1. Disconnect the sway bar link: Use a socket to remove the nut connecting it to the strut.
  2. Unbolt the strut from the steering knuckle: Remove the bolts securing the strut to the knuckle using a socket.
  3. Remove the strut top mount bolts: Access the strut top mount inside the engine bay or under the rear seat, depending on the strut location, and remove the bolts.
  4. Carefully remove the strut assembly: Gently pull the strut out of the knuckle and lower the assembly from the vehicle.
4. Replace or Repair Struts
  • If replacing, use a strut spring compressor to safely compress the spring on the old strut.
  • Remove the top nut and carefully release the spring from the strut.
  • Install the new strut by reversing the removal process, ensuring all bolts are torqued to the manufacturer’s specifications.
5. Reassemble
  • Reattach the strut assembly to the steering knuckle and secure it with bolts.
  • Reconnect the sway bar link.
  • Reinstall the wheels and lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
  • Reconnect the battery.
