Solution
1. Preparation
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely lifted.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical short circuits.
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
2. Remove the ABS Module
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, screwdriver set, brake line wrench.
  • Remove any covers or panels obstructing access to the ABS module.
  • Using the brake line wrench, carefully disconnect the brake lines from the ABS module. Have a container ready to catch any leaking brake fluid.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the ABS module by pressing the release tab.
  • Unbolt the ABS module from its mounting brackets using the socket set.
3. Inspect and Replace
  • Inspect the old ABS module for damage or corrosion. If faulty, replace with a new or refurbished unit.
  • Parts Required: New ABS module (specific to your BMW model).
  • Install the new ABS module by reversing the removal process. Ensure all connections are secure and torque bolts to manufacturer specifications.
4. Bleed the Brake System
  • Reconnect the brake lines to the ABS module; ensure they are tightly secured.
  • Fill the brake fluid reservoir with the appropriate brake fluid (DOT 4 for most BMWs).
  • Bleed the brake system to remove any air trapped in the lines. Start from the furthest wheel from the master cylinder and work your way closer.
5. Reconnect Battery and Test
  • Reconnect the battery terminals.
  • Start the vehicle and check for any warning lights on the dashboard.
  • Test the brakes at low speed to ensure proper engagement of the ABS system.
