Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and set the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Remove the Wheel
  • Use a socket set to loosen the lug nuts on the left front wheel.
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts and take off the left front wheel.
3. Inspect and Replace the Wheel Speed Sensor
  • Locate the left front wheel speed sensor mounted on the hub assembly.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.
  • Remove the mounting bolt(s) securing the sensor using an appropriate socket.
  • Carefully pull the sensor out of its mounting hole.
  • If replacing, install the new sensor, ensuring it is fully seated and secured with the mounting bolt(s).
  • Reconnect the electrical connector.
4. Check the ABS Reluctor Ring
  • Inspect the ABS reluctor ring for cracks, corrosion, or debris.
  • Clean the reluctor ring using a soft brush if dirt is present.
  • If damaged, replace the reluctor ring as necessary.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the left front wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications (usually around 80-100 lb-ft).
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the vehicle and check for error codes using the OBD-II scanner to ensure the C0031 code is cleared.
