Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues.
2. Remove Components
  1. Remove the Underbody Shield:

    • Use a socket set to remove the screws/bolts securing the underbody shield.
    • Set the shield aside safely.
  2. Drain Power Steering Fluid:

    • Place a drain pan under the power steering reservoir.
    • Remove the hose connected to the reservoir to drain the fluid completely.
3. Replace or Repair Steering Rack
  1. Remove the Steering Rack:

    • Disconnect the tie rod ends from the steering rack using a wrench.
    • Remove the bolts securing the rack to the subframe.
    • Carefully pull the steering rack out of the vehicle.
  2. Inspect and Repair:

    • Check the steering rack seals for wear and replace if necessary.
    • If the rack is damaged, replace it with a new or refurbished unit.
  3. Install New or Repaired Steering Rack:

    • Position the new or repaired steering rack in place and secure with bolts to the subframe.
    • Reattach the tie rod ends and tighten to manufacturer specifications (usually around 30-40 Nm).
4. Reconnect Components
  1. Reconnect the Power Steering Hoses:

    • Reattach the hose to the power steering reservoir and secure it.
    • Ensure all connections are tight and free of leaks.
  2. Replace Underbody Shield:

    • Reinstall the underbody shield using the screws/bolts removed earlier.
5. Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with the appropriate fluid recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to purge air from the system.
