Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts. Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface.
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdrivers, oil catch pan, torque wrench, UV light (if using dye).
  • Safety Warnings: Disconnect the battery before starting any work on the electrical components.
2. Drain Power Steering Fluid
  • Place an oil catch pan under the power steering reservoir.
  • Using a syringe or a fluid pump, remove old power steering fluid from the reservoir.
  • Dispose of the fluid in accordance with local regulations.
3. Replace Faulty Components

Power Steering Pump

  • Remove the pump:
    • Disconnect the power steering lines using a wrench, and cap them to prevent contamination.
    • Unbolt the power steering pump from its mounting bracket.
    • Carefully lift the pump out of the engine bay.
  • Install the new pump:
    • Position the new power steering pump in place.
    • Secure it with bolts to the mounting bracket, torqueing to manufacturer's specifications (usually around 25-30 Nm).
    • Reconnect the power steering lines, ensuring they are tight but not over-torqued to prevent damage.

Steering Rack

  • Remove the steering rack:
    • Disconnect the tie rod ends from the steering rack using a wrench.
    • Unbolt the steering rack from its mounts, paying attention to any additional brackets or supports.
  • Install the new steering rack:
    • Position the new steering rack in place, securing it with bolts to the mounts.
    • Reattach the tie rod ends, torqueing to specifications.
4. Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with the appropriate type of fluid (usually ATF or specific power steering fluid).
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to help bleed the system of air.
  • Check for leaks around the replaced components.
5. Final Inspection
  • Inspect all connections for any signs of leaking fluid.
  • Clean any spilled fluid from the engine bay to prevent damage or slipping hazards.
