Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the vehicle.
2. Clean or Replace Throttle Body
  • Remove the air intake ducting leading to the throttle body.
  • Use throttle body cleaner and a soft brush to clean the inside of the throttle body.
  • If damaged, replace the throttle body with a new one, ensuring proper alignment and sealing.
  • Reconnect the air intake ducting and secure it.
3. Inspect and Clean MAF Sensor
  • Locate the MAF sensor, usually situated between the air filter and throttle body.
  • Disconnect the MAF sensor connector and remove the sensor from the housing.
  • Use MAF cleaner to gently clean the sensor elements; avoid touching the sensor with fingers.
  • Reinstall the MAF sensor and reconnect the electrical connector.
4. Check and Replace Fuel Filter
  • Locate the fuel filter (may vary by engine type).
  • Relieve the fuel system pressure by removing the fuel pump fuse and starting the engine until it stalls.
  • Disconnect the fuel lines from the filter, ensuring to catch any spilled fuel.
  • Replace the old filter with a new one, ensuring all connections are secure.
  • Reinstall the fuel pump fuse and check for leaks upon reconnection.
5. Replace Spark Plugs and Ignition Coils
  • Remove the engine cover if applicable.
  • Disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition coils.
  • Remove the ignition coils and spark plugs using a socket set.
  • Install new spark plugs with the proper torque specification (typically around 22 Nm).
  • Reinstall ignition coils and reconnect electrical connectors.
6. Transmission Fluid Check
  • Check the transmission fluid level using the dipstick (if applicable).
  • If low, add the appropriate transmission fluid recommended by BMW.
  • If the fluid is discolored or burnt, perform a transmission fluid change.
