Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety.
2. Inspect and Tighten Steering Components
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench
  • Remove the lower steering column cover to access bolts.
  • Using a socket, check and tighten all mounting bolts on the steering rack and steering column.
  • Torque specifications for bolts should be followed as per manufacturer guidelines.
3. Replace Worn Components

a. Tie Rod Ends

  • Tools Required: Ball joint separator, wrench set
  • If tie rod ends are found to be worn, remove the securing nut and use a ball joint separator to detach the tie rod.
  • Install the new tie rod end by securing it with a new nut to the specified torque.

b. Intermediate Steering Shaft

  • Tools Required: Wrench set, possibly a steering wheel puller
  • If the intermediate steering shaft is worn, detach it from the steering column and the steering rack.
  • Replace it with a new intermediate steering shaft and secure it properly.
4. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the lower steering column cover.
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Start the vehicle and check for any rattles or noises while turning the steering wheel.
