Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, wheel chocks, socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor.
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and securely supported with jack stands. Wear safety glasses and gloves.
2. Remove the Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the affected wheel with a socket.
  • Lift the vehicle using the jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
3. Remove the Strut Assembly
  • 3.1. Disconnect the Brake Line:
    • Carefully unclip the brake line from the strut using pliers.
  • 3.2. Remove the Strut Mount Bolts:
    • Locate the upper strut mount bolts under the hood and remove them using a socket.
  • 3.3. Unbolt the Lower Strut:
    • Remove the lower strut bolts from the knuckle using a socket. You may need to use a hammer to tap them out.
  • 3.4. Remove the Strut Assembly:
    • Gently wiggle and pull the strut assembly out of the wheel well.
4. Replace the Strut
  • 4.1. Compress the Spring:
    • Use a strut spring compressor to safely compress the coil spring on the strut assembly.
  • 4.2. Remove the Old Strut:
    • Unbolt the old strut from the assembly and replace it with the new strut.
  • 4.3. Reassemble the Strut:
    • Reattach the coil spring to the new strut, ensuring it is properly seated.
5. Reinstall the Strut Assembly
  • 5.1. Insert the Strut:
    • Carefully position the new strut assembly back into the wheel well.
  • 5.2. Secure the Lower Strut:
    • Bolt the lower strut back to the knuckle and torque to manufacturer specifications.
  • 5.3. Attach the Upper Strut Mount:
    • Secure the upper strut mount bolts under the hood and torque them to specifications.
  • 5.4. Reconnect the Brake Line:
    • Clip the brake line back into position on the strut.
6. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Replace the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle to the ground and torque the lug nuts to specifications.
