Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery for safety.

Tools Required:

  • Floor jack
  • Jack stands
  • Socket set
  • Torque wrench
  • Strut spring compressor
  • Pliers
  • Screwdrivers
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front or rear wheel (depending on which strut is being replaced).
  • Use the floor jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel.
3. Remove Strut Assembly
  • Locate and remove the bolts securing the strut to the lower control arm.
  • Remove the bolts securing the strut to the strut tower (top of the suspension).
  • Carefully detach the strut from the vehicle, ensuring to take note of any washers or spacers.
4. Disassemble Strut
  • Use a strut spring compressor to safely compress the spring attached to the strut.
  • Remove the top nut securing the spring and strut together.
  • Carefully remove the spring and any associated components (bump stops, dust covers).
5. Install New Strut
  • Place the new strut in the same position as the old one.
  • Reattach the spring, bump stops, and dust covers, ensuring all components are aligned correctly.
  • Tighten the top nut on the strut to the manufacturer’s torque specification.
6. Reinstall Strut Assembly
  • Insert the strut into the strut tower and lower control arm.
  • Secure it with the previously removed bolts, tightening them to the specified torque values.
7. Reassemble Wheel
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and fully tighten the lug nuts to the recommended torque.
